Deferred Action for Childhood Arrives, also known as “DACA”
was a program launched in August 15, 2012 by the administration of President
Obama on August 15, 2012. The program is intended to give “Deferred Status” to undocumented individuals that entered the United States before the age of sixteen (16), meaning deportation laws would not be enforced against those that apply and are
approved (for a 2-year period that is renewable). The program also gives a successful
applicant a work permit (EAD), which allows them to have a legal social
security number.
